Melissa was contracted to work with Reed Exhibitions on the Event Co-ordination for the Queensland Mining and Engineering Exhibition (QME), which took place 27-29 July 2010. Since completing this project, she has continued with us on an ad-hoc basis working on a number of key events within different portfolios at Reed Exhibitions. QME has grown to become the leading industrial exhibition in central Queensland. QME 2010 was considered by the majority of its record 500 exhibitors and over 10,000 high quality professional visitors to be the most impressive edition yet. Melissa played a significant role in the success of QME 2010 whilst undertaking the event co-ordination. Her achievements include: Exhibitor customer service (over 500 exhibitors that require assistance leading up to the event); production of the exhibition directory (our largest and most extensive to date); management of the networking event for exhibitors and delegates and onsite customer service. Melissa is an extremely professional, dedicated and ambitious individual with an extraordinary drive and work ethic. Whilst with Reed Exhibitions, her team spirit and passion for winning was evident in all tasks she undertook. Co-ordinating five youth festivals nationally in only a six-month period is a huge task. When coupled with the complex format of Vibe Alive, a huge task quickly becomes mammoth. Five super high-energy festivals and a total of 16,000 students, teachers and community members, all competing in an Olympic type environment was the job at hand. Instead of swimming, athletics and gymnastics, Vibe Alive is about singing, dancing, art, spelling, mathematics and 3on3 basketball. With a tight crew of 10 and a cast of only 8, the result was nothing short of magic. Melissa Park was one of the 10 people creating magic and a very important part of the team. Working in an environment where she had very little briefing and limited contact with other team players, she performed miraculously, and value added at every corner. A lot of people, who call themselves event producers, would not be able to survive in the Vibe Alive environment. The event was nothing but hard, exhausting, non-stop and strenuous. Very few people could pull it off - the combination of large scale staging and production requirements, coupled with the political imperatives such as cultural parameters, desire for educational outcomes, State/Territories and Federal Government perspectives and, of course, local politics. It was a baptism of fire – not for the faint hearted – and Melissa Park excelled. Dedication, focus and commitment to the job at hand are never a question with Melissa. And on site those little things that could bring the event down are always covered. An ability to listen to others is a quality Melissa possesses, as is her respect for co-workers and those around her. Melissa understands the importance of teamwork and cohesion within a team and knows how to liaise and respectfully deal with people at a local level. Vibe Alive is an event that I have worked to create for almost 20 years, and to see the event take shape in such a professional and appropriate manner is something Melissa deserves much credit for.
